Our teen Confirmation study group started this past Sunday, September 14th. It meets from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. To develop a foundation for the sacrament of Confirmation we looked this Sunday at the topics of “faith” and “baptism.” We looked at Ephesians 4:1 and God’s call for the baptized “to lead a life that’s worthy of the calling to which we been called.” In fact, live your life reflecting your new birth in Christ. We discussed how the life God that is calling us to is not possible without His grace. This passage from Ephesians pointed to additional themes that we will take up over the next nine months as the kids prepare to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. Themes like, “God’s Plan of Salvation”, “Purification and holiness: the Holy Spirit”, “the Church as Communion”, “to know that we are created by God for a purpose” and how to “listen to the voice of our conscience” and how to “properly form our conscience by the mind of Christ.” The sacrament of Confirmation completes the graces of Baptism by a special outpouring of the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, it “confirms” the baptized in their union with Christ, and all of this is done to spiritually and intellectually prepare our kids to live an active life “in Christ” living as leaven in the world! Teens age 14 and up may still join the group. The program includes two weekend retreats. Pray for Fr. Klein and our kids as they journey down this path to deepen our faith.
